Due to the popularity of this weekend in 2017 and as numbers are limited to 11 per retreat, we are now offering this retreat on two weekends in January 2018 (second and third weekend). Open to all levels of yoga experience, we will focus on releasing old unhealthy patterns and tensions and creating a positive mindset as set our intentions for the year ahead.

Our accommodation for the weekend is rather like a friend’s Georgian country house where the soundtrack is birdsong, there’s a wooden-floored library full of books and vintage binoculars in the (Farrow & Ball) sitting room, a large kitchen with flag-stoned floors (help yourself to complimentary Pukka teas and coffee) and a lovely light-filled ante-room reached across a pretty courtyard.
Nestled underneath the South Downs and edged by woodland with far reaching views across the Sussex Weald, Tilton House sits impressively in the natural landscape (as you can see from the photo above!). The Georgian country house was once home to economist John Maynard Keynes and ballerina Lydia Lopokova as their retreat for contemplation and calm. It is the perfect venue for our retreat with classes taking place in the cosy wooden-floored library by a beautiful open log fire built by Keyes.
The individually decorated bedrooms use the local landscape as inspiration, so expect muted sage greens, greys and sea-blues, reclaimed furniture, seagrass rugs and painted wooden floors. Bed linen is by The White Company, bathrooms are modern and there are always fresh flowers from the garden on display.
In the grounds you’ll find a kitchen garden with raised beds growing veggies, a 30-foot woodland yurt with wood-burning stove, a fire pit, hammocks strung up on mature trees and a tennis court. There is enough space to lose yourself, and little creative touches to lift the heart, such as reclaimed writing tables graced with little pots of flowers and set in private nooks.
The focus will be detoxifying the body and food is a big part of this! All meals will be vegetarian with no gluten or refined sugar included. As a nutritional therapist – food that makes you feel energised and amazing is a big and important focus on this retreat. But, as a passionate foodie – food that tastes delicious is also an absolute imperative!
Meals are cooked fresh from the kitchen, using as much from their organic vegetable gardens as possible. All food is nutritionally balanced and well thought out to provide you with enough vital vitamins, minerals and energy to keep you tip-top throughout your stay. Yes we will have dessert but instead of using refined sugar our chefs will create sweet delicacies using natural and nourishing alternatives such as coconut nectar or dates.

On this detox weekend our sessions will be especially designed to focus on releasing toxins and stored physical (and emotional) tension from your body. From the yoga postures sequencing, to the music playlist I put together, to the essential oils used for your ‘savasana’ head massage at the end of the session – I carefully chose all elements to provide you with a full sensory experience. My yoga is open to all levels! So whether you are a super bendy yogi or would simply like to be able to touch your toes one day or to sort out your stiff shoulders, I will make sure that each one of you benefits from the class 100% and steps out afterwards feeling amazing 🙂 Our sessions will take place in Tilton House’s library in front of an open fire – it really is quite magical.
Getting to Tilton House couldn’t be easier as there are excellent road and rail links to the venue. London is just over an hour away and Brighton a 20 min car journey (A27). You can also travel by train by using one of the regular services from London Victoria to Berwick station, which is only 2 miles away.
During the weekend there is free time to explore the outstanding surroundings. You could take a walk through the rolling downs to the sea or visit Charleston Farmhouse and garden, home to the Bloomsbury Artists, which is just a 2 minute walk from Tilton. The little village of Berwick with it’s historic church where Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell painted their murals is a 5 minute drive away; or if you like alternative shops and eateries, the market town of Lewes is a 10 minute drive. You may like to simply rest and relax, enjoying the delightful atmosphere of Tilton – simply laze and recuperate in a hammock in the garden or in the beautiful and wellstocked library; and, for the more energetic there is an all weather tennis court.
This retreat is offered on both the second and third weekend of January 2018 (12-14th Jan and 19th – 21st Jan)
We start Friday 4.30pm (arrive anytime from 3pm) and finish Sunday at 3pm.
